The Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service has re-arrested a 41-year-old Chinese woman, Zhu Dan, suspected of dealing in cocaine in Kumasi on Monday, June 16, 2025.
According to a www.kumasimail.com investigation source, the suspect was initially released by the unit’s command on Sunday night in exchange for alleged bribe, shortly after she was arrested at the KTV Cafe in Daaban, a suburb of Kumasi, where the alleged trading was ongoing .
“I’m disappointed in the conduct of my colleagues. The woman was arrested while trading in cocaine. That is a fact no one can deny,” the source said. “Instead of proceeding with standard legal protocols, including interrogation and prosecution, the officers allegedly accepted an undisclosed sum of money and released both the suspect and the seized drugs, allowing her to resume her operations in the Ashanti Region.” Disappointed source said.
After the police became aware that some top individual in the region is in the know of the said operation ASP Frasier Nutakor, the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit Commander, re-arrested the suspect on Monday to cover their shame and unprofessional conduct.
On Thursday, June 19, 2025, while speaking to www.kumasimail.com in his office, ASP Frasier Nutakor confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended on Sunday evening at about 21:00 hours at the KTV Café and brought to his attention on Monday.
ASP Frasier who denied taken monitory bribe to kill the case refused to speak on record in an interview with Kumasi Mail. ” Whatever you have heard is not true. It is just hear say because the suspect is in custody’’ he said.
He explained that the suspect was arraigned before the Kwadaso Circuit Court on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The court, presided over by His Honour Japheth Apua, granted her bail in the sum of GH₵400,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.
He further stated that the suspect has not yet met the bail conditions, and the case has been adjourned to July 7, 2025.
He added, “On Monday, I invited NACOB to conduct a test in my office, and the test results confirmed that the substance is cocaine. We have sent the sample to Accra for a forensic test.”
Another police source disclosed “ I’m police officer my boss acted upon pressure from some security quarters. This is unfortunate we are working the whole country must know that. This act by some police kills staff morale. I want the inspector general of police and the minister of Interior to take interest in the matter else our battle against drugs trade and illegal use will yield no results in the Ashanti region’’ he said.
Since the re-arrest, the police have remained silent on the matter, withholding details from both the public and the media.
Further Check at the Ashanti regional public relations unit command denied knowledge about the arrest and subsequent Court development.
The female registrar of the Kwadaso Circuit confirm to www.kumasimail.com that a cocaine case involving a Chines Woman was brought to the court yesterday but fail to give detail information.
She said “ I’m aware of the issue the Chines Waman was brought to our court yesterday but I don’t have further information on the matter. Come tomorrow at 2pm I hope by then the information you are looking for will be ready’’.
The big question now is why will the police, who readily address the media about the arrest of local weed dealers, remained silent on the arrest of a Chinese national suspected of dealing cocaine since Monday, June 16, 2025 ?
