The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has informed Asante Kotoko that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium stays unfit of the required standards to host matches for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors booked their place in the Confederation Cup qualifiers after defeating Golden Kicks FC in the final of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.
In a communication to the club, CAF cited the following to be addressed before the preferred venue could receive the “go-ahead” for the games; Pitch Upgrade, Safety Zone, Dugout, Enhanced Media Stands, CCTV Installation and Scoreboard.
As a result, Asante Kotoko may have to relocate their home matches to Accra for the Confederation Cup campaign unless urgent upgrades are made to the Baba Yara Stadium and it passes a follow-up CAF inspection.
The news comes as a setback for the club, which must now engage with authorities and stakeholders to either implement swift remedies or prepare for a temporary move.
The National Sports Authority, under the leadership of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, now faces the responsibility of addressing the specific concerns raised about the Ashanti Region’s premier stadium, with the goal of allowing Kotoko to enjoy home support during their Confederation Cup campaign.
