In the wake of the devastating fire outbreak at the Kejetia Bluelight section of the Kumasi Central Market, Ghanaian Reggae artist African Child, known off-stage as Kumoo, has released a heartfelt tribute song to honour the victims and reignite hope among affected traders.
Titled “Rise Again,” the emotionally stirring song is a soulful composition reflecting resilience, unity, and faith in recovery. It captures the sorrow and loss experienced by hundreds of traders who saw their livelihoods reduced to ashes, while offering a powerful message of consolation and courage.
Speaking at a brief interaction with Kumasi Mail, African Child stated that the song is his way of giving back to the community and expressing solidarity with those who were affected. “As someone born and raised in Kumasi, this tragedy touched me deeply. Music is the only way I know how to heal pain and inspire hope. This song is for my brothers and sisters, every market woman, every trader, and every youth whose future was disrupted by the flames,” he said.
In a symbolic gesture of public support, African Child revealed plans to donate the song to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amaokohene, whose office has been at the forefront of coordinating donor support and recovery initiatives for the victims. The musician believes that the regional leadership can help amplify the song’s message and make it a unifying anthem for recovery efforts.
The artist also hinted at plans to perform the song at a live solidarity concert in Kejetia once market reconstruction progresses. “Bluelight Go Rise Again is more than a song—it’s a movement to rekindle hope,” he emphasized.
The Kejetia fire, which erupted not long ago, left hundreds of traders displaced, causing widespread loss of merchandise and economic hardship. While emergency aid and support are still ongoing, many victims continue to rebuild their businesses with optimism and community support.
