The Obuasi Circuit Court has remanded nine suspects into prison custody over a brutal assault on police officers captured in a viral video from Tweapease Senior High School Park.
The attack stemmed from a football tournament final on January 3, organized by TW Mines in Suhyenso, Obuasi. Teams BTW Tweapease and Suhyenso faced off, with Suhyenso securing a narrow 1-0 victory.

Celebrations by the winning side quickly turned chaotic, as supporters of the losing Tweapease team formed a violent mob. They targeted police officers on duty, assaulting at least one and attempting to seize his CZ assault rifle, according to initial reports from Kumasi Mail.

A Ghana Police Service statement released Saturday evening confirmed the arrests and court appearance.

The suspects; Joshua Frimpong (aka Joey B), Bannor Williams, Isaac Dwumfour (aka Sporty), Evans Bannor (aka Pressure King), Asiedu Ronald (aka Case Close), Sarfo Alex (aka Okele), Yaw Alex, Obidiaba Desmond, and Agyemang Emmanuel appeared before the Obuasi Circuit Court on January 8.

They face charges of assault on public officers.

“The incident occurred at Tweapease Senior High School Park, where the suspects, together with others, attacked the police officers who were on duty at the location,” the police statement read.

It added that investigations continue, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance.

“We wish to caution that persons who attack our officers will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.”

The viral video, which spread rapidly on social media, showed the mob overpowering officers amid the post-match pandemonium.
