The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it has formally engaged the Ghana Police Service following the death of a 26-year-old Liberian national, Austin Tengeeh, in an incident of mob violence in Accra, Ghana.
In a press release issued Tuesday, the LNP confirmed that the incident occurred in the Sakumono District of Accra, with preliminary information from Ghanaian authorities indicating that the altercation took place at an apartment complex in Lashibi, near Sakumono.
According to official briefings provided to Liberian authorities, Tengeeh was at the premises when a dispute broke out under circumstances that remain under investigation. During the disturbance, an alarm was reportedly raised, drawing members of the public to the scene. The situation escalated into a violent assault against Tengeeh.
Police in Ghana are said to have responded to the scene and transported Tengeeh to Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home pending an autopsy and further forensic procedures.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the incident. The suspects appeared in court on March 2, 2026, as investigations continue.
The Liberia National Police also disclosed that it has formally contacted the Embassy of Ghana in Monrovia and remains in active diplomatic communication to receive updates on both the investigative and judicial processes. According to the LNP, Ghanaian authorities have assured them that due process is being observed.
The LNP expressed condolences to Tengeeh’s family and the broader Liberian community affected by the incident. It also reiterated its opposition to mob violence and extrajudicial actions, stressing that allegations of misconduct must be addressed through lawful and judicial means.
Authorities in Liberia are urging the public to remain calm and avoid speculation or inflammatory commentary as investigations proceed. Further updates will be issued through official channels as more information becomes available.
