The Busunya Traditional Council in the Nkoranza North District of the Bono East Region has announced a strict by-law aimed at improving discipline and supporting education in the community.
The announcement was made during the Speech and Prize-Giving Day of SDA Basic School in Busunya, where students and teachers were honored for their academic and extracurricular achievements.

Under the new directive, children are expected to be indoors between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Any child found outside during that period will be brought before the traditional council for questioning. If found guilty, the child’s parents will be fined GH¢200, while the child will receive 12 lashes as punishment.

Speaking on behalf of the Busunya Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Effah, Head of the Busunya Family (Abusuapanin), said the by-law is intended to promote discipline among children and improve the quality of education in the community.

He stressed that community support is essential in shaping responsible students.
The event was attended by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North, Patrick Effah, who joined the school to celebrate the achievements of students and teachers.
The ceremony was held under the theme “Honouring Hard Work and Excellence Within a Disciplined Learning Community.”
During his address, Hon. Effah spoke about efforts to improve education in the district, including initiatives under the School Feeding Programme.
He also welcomed the school management’s efforts to raise funds to construct a fence around the school, describing it as a step that will help improve the learning environment and security of pupils.
The School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, Mr. Opoku Sampson, also urged parents to actively support their children’s education and collaborate with the school whenever necessary.
He advised pupils to be punctual and encouraged teachers to continue guiding students toward academic excellence.

Meanwhile, the Nkoranza North District Director of Education, Stephen D. K. Botwe, expressed concern about challenges facing schools in the district, particularly the shortage of teachers and classrooms.
According to him, the district continues to face a significant teacher deficit, which affects effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Botwe, however, commended the School Management Committee, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and traditional authorities for their initiative to support the fencing of the school, noting that such collaboration benefits the safety and development of pupils, especially at the kindergarten level.

As part of the ceremony, several teachers and students were presented with awards in recognition of their dedication, integrity, and hard work.
An award-winning teacher, Mr. Donyina Prince, together with the school prefects, encouraged students to remain disciplined, work hard, and strive for academic excellence.
The event celebrated the commitment of teachers, parents, and students while reaffirming the school’s vision of nurturing disciplined learners and future leaders.
