Following Ghana’s disappointing international break, where the Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany, media personality David Opare Donkor, popularly known as Kwame Wilder, has weighed in on the growing debate surrounding the team’s struggles.
In the aftermath of the results, the Ghana Football Association relieved head coach Otto Addo of his duties, a decision that has sparked mixed reactions among fans and analysts. However, Kwame Wilder believes that dismissing the coach is not the solution to the Black Stars’ ongoing challenges.
According to him, the core issue lies in the lack of autonomy given to national team coaches. He argued that for the Black Stars to improve, the Ghana Football Association must allow appointed coaches the freedom to work independently, particularly in selecting players without external interference.
He further emphasized that imposing players on coaches undermines team cohesion and performance. In his view, a coach who is fully in charge of his squad is better positioned to build a competitive and disciplined team capable of delivering results on the international stage.
Kwame Wilder also highlighted the quality within the Ghana Premier League, insisting that many local players are more deserving of national team call-ups than some foreign-based players currently in the squad.
He urged the FA to consider integrating more home-based talents into the team if Ghana hopes to make a significant impact at future tournaments, including the World Cup.
