Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says Ghana’s players are prepared to “fight for every ball” as they continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese coach will lead Ghana to their fifth World Cup appearance since the country made its tournament debut in Germany in 2006.
Queiroz is currently in the United Kingdom with members of the national team ahead of an international friendly against Wales national football team on 2 June. The match forms part of Ghana’s preparations as the technical team works to finalise its squad for the tournament.
In a message posted on social media, Queiroz acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing the Black Stars but insisted the team was determined to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
“Today, with 24 days remaining before our first World Cup challenge, we begin what many may call a Mission (Im)possible,” he wrote.
“We know the price that must be paid — sacrifice, discipline, relentless effort, and total dedication — if we are to honour the dreams and expectations of the people of Ghana.”
The former Portugal and Iran coach said the team’s ambition was to represent the pride and football identity of Ghana on the global stage.
“If our dream is to make the difference at the end, we have to start by being different at the beginning,” he added.
“We are ready to fight together for every ball, every moment, for our dream.”
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
