Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, has declared he will not step down after President John Dramani Mahama’s four-year tenure ends. Instead, he plans to seek re-election when party nominations open.

In an exclusive interview with Kojo Marfo on Fakye TV’s DayBreak morning show monitored by Kumasimail, Nana Kwasi expressed deep joy in serving the NDC.
“If I’m doing party work, I’m always happy,” he said. “With my age, I’ve more ahead, and this party I’m not a foreigner.”
The veteran politician traced his roots in Achiase, where he once served as branch chairman. He rose through the ranks as Ejisu constituency executive, parliamentary candidate, Ashanti regional vice chairman, and now regional chairman thanks to the “good works” that earned him grassroots support.
Under his leadership, the NDC boosted its Ashanti seats from three to seven. “Anytime we go for an election and we get 27% in the Ashanti region, we win elections in Ghana,” Nana Kwasi noted.
Nana Kwasi credited teamwork, not solo effort. “Myself and my regional executives did great to come this far,” he said. “How can I do it alone? It’s always teamwork.”
He emphasized his hands-on style stating, “As regional chairman, I don’t sit in the office. I always go to the various constituencies to monitor what’s happening.”
Looking ahead, he likened his path to Mahama’s ascent from assemblyman to president, arguing experience matters.
“It’s a national seat, party seat; God crowns someone king. But if I see the love and how I made the party look… in this world, the more you do, the more you garner experience.”
“Now this is my peak, and I know I’ve a lot to do for Asanteman, for my dear party NDC,” he added.
He continued to declare, “Insha’Allah, if nominations open, I’ll contest as regional chairman again. The love the people have for me I know they will vote me to continue my good works for this region.”
