Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman and Board Chairman of InterCity STC Coaches Limited, has disclosed that about 75% of the buses operating under the STC brand are privately owned, not by the government.

In an interview on Fakye TV’s Daybreak morning show with host Kojo Marfo, Nana Kwasi described the company as a “skeleton” when the NDC assumed office on January 7, 2025.
“The STC we came to meet was a skeleton,” he said adding “STC was valuing government vehicles; those times the NPP gave it to somebody.”
He alleged that key assets, including a training school for drivers, had been handed over to private entities under the previous administration.
Nana Kwasi claimed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deliberately neglected fleet expansion, instead allowing private buses to dominate operations.
“Buses give STC more cash, but they broke it down and gave it to private individuals,” he stated.
“As we speak, STC buses belonging to the government are less than 35; the remaining belong to private people. That’s what we are trying to change.”
Pressed by Marfo on the meaning of “private people,” Nana Kwasi explained, “They wanted to collapse STC. Instead of buying more buses owned by the government, they ignored that and brought in friends’ buses. A lot of STC-branded buses belong to private people because the company does not have them. Now we are trying to have more buses so the money will come to the government.”
The discussion also touched on new terminals. Marfo noted the creation of a Labour Tool terminal alongside existing ones at Adum and Asafo Market, questioning the move amid a limited government fleet.
Nana Kwasi clarified that the Labour bus terminal is privately owned.
“Last year, it was branded with the STC name,” he said. “When I became board chair, I said no if it does not belong to STC, the name should be removed.”
He emphasized that while assets may appear government-owned on paper, revenues largely benefit private pockets. “STC buses belonging to the government are few,” Nana Kwasi concluded.
