One person has been confirmed dead and nine others injured following a road traffic accident at Mile 44 on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Monday.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at about 4:24 a.m. on April 13, 2026, reporting the incident. A seven-member team from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived within minutes.
The crash involved a VIP bus and a MAN diesel trailer. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking by the bus.
Out of the 33 passengers on board, one male victim died on the spot, while nine others—comprising one female and eight males—sustained various degrees of injury. The remaining 23 passengers escaped unhurt, and no individuals were trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters secured the accident scene and ensured safety before concluding their operations and returning to base. Both vehicles involved sustained partial damage.
Authorities are yet to release the identity of the deceased as investigations continue.
