The Government of Ghana has officially launched a new electronic visa (e-Visa) platform aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening border security, and advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The launch ceremony, held in Accra on Tuesday, was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State, and senior government officials, including Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
Speaking after the event in a statement shared on his Facebook page, the Asawase member of Parliament described the initiative as a landmark step toward positioning Ghana as a leading digital gateway in Africa.
According to him, the e-Visa platform is expected to enhance efficiency in visa processing while supporting trade, tourism, and international partnerships.
President Mahama announced that all African passport holders travelling to Ghana for business purposes will now apply for visas exclusively through the new online platform, replacing the previous visa-on-arrival arrangement.
He explained that the initiative forms part of a broader government strategy to deepen continental integration and strengthen ties between Ghana, Africans on the continent, and the diaspora.
Alhaji Muntaka noted that the platform represents a significant advancement in Ghana’s border management system, shifting from manual processing to a technology-driven approach capable of identifying potential security threats before travellers arrive in the country.
“This initiative sends a clear message that Ghana is ready for increased investment, tourism, and stronger international partnerships while taking a leading role in Africa’s digital future,” he stated.
The Interior Minister also commended the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, the Ghana Immigration Service, technical teams, and strategic partners for their contributions toward the successful implementation of the project.
