Several aspirants who lost their bids in the just-concluded NPP constituency executive elections in the Ashanti Region have attributed thier defeats to perceived disloyalty to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The affected candidates claim their association with rival presidential primary contenders such as Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong may have cost them dearly at the polls, as delegates appeared to punish anyone seen as standing outside the Bawumia camp.
Some have also pointed fingers at Effiduase/Asokore MP, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, whose vocal endorsement of pro-Bawumia candidates ahead of the elections dominated headlines across traditional and social media.
According to the aggrieved aspirants, the MP’s widely publicised comments tilted the playing field further against them, resulting in their inability to convince delegates about their true competence and commitment.
They did not however allege any covert or overt machinations on the part of the Presidential Candidate, adding that the elections were fairly conducted across all the 47 constituencies
