The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have initiated processes for a review of public transport fares.
In a joint statement, the two transport bodies said a formal request has been submitted to the Ministry of Transport in accordance with the established administrative procedures governing fare adjustments.
According to the statement, the request forms part of the consultative framework used to determine and review public transport fares, taking into account the various costs associated with commercial road transport operations.
The transport operators indicated that discussions with the Ministry of Transport are expected to commence soon, after which a decision on any fare adjustment will be communicated to the public.
They urged drivers, transport owners, station masters and commuters to remain calm while the consultation process is ongoing.
“We wish to assure the general public that engagement will soon commence with the Ministry of Transport and the outcome will be communicated in due course,” the statement said.
The GPRTU and GRTCC further appealed to stakeholders within the transport sector and the general public to await the outcome of the discussions before taking any action regarding the transport fares.
