Deputy Registrar of the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), Prof Vida Nyagre Yakong, has warned young people involved in Ghanaian politics against allowing politicians to exploit them for political interests and abandon them afterwards.
She urged young politicians to protect their personal ambitions and future instead of sacrificing them in pursuit of the interests of political actors.
“Politics in Ghana can be dirty. For those of you involved in politics, play it with care,” Prof Yakong said.
She was delivering the keynote address at the Tamale Youth Summit at the GNAT Hall in Tamale on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Prof Yakong cautioned young people against politicians who could use them to advance their interests and later discard them.
“Do not allow yourselves to be misused to serve the interest of others and be dumped thereafter,” she said.
She urged the youth to identify such politicians and distance themselves from them, stressing that they had lives, families and futures to protect.
The HeFRA official also cautioned student politicians against allowing partisan activities to undermine their education.
She said their primary objective in school should be to obtain a quality qualification rather than simply being involved in politics.
“I have always told my student politicians that their number one reason for being here in school is to obtain a good certificate and not just a certificate,” she said.
Prof Yakong said young people who neglected their education because of politics would ultimately have themselves to blame.
Her remarks formed part of a broader call for young people to develop integrity, resilience, authenticity and a commitment to service.
She also urged the youth to reject tribal sentiments and promote peace, warning that sustainable development could not take place in an environment without peace.
The summit, organised by the Dream Big Foundation, brought together about 2,000 young leaders from Northern Ghana under the theme “Breaking Limits: Empowering Youth for Leadership, Innovation and Impact.”
