President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday, commissioned four hospitals in the Ashanti Region with a call on Ghanaians to retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continue the massive investment in the health sector.
His said his government had demonstrated commitment to prioritising the health of citizens with the biggest and most ambitious infrastructural development in the sector under the Agenda 111 initiative.
“We need a trustworthy leader who has the desire and vision to protect and continue the investments made in the health sector, and that is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he told the people of Sabronum in the Ahafo Ano South East District where he commissioned one of the four hospitals.
The other three are at Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, Twedie in the Atwima Kanwoma District, and Suame in the Suame Municipality.
They are part of 12 hospitals being constructed by VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria, a global leader in the construction of healthcare facilities.
The government, in 2020 announced that it had secured funding for the 12 hospital project from Erste Group Bank AG and Ceska Sporitelna a.s. to improve access to healthcare in Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo said the huge investment made in health since the NPP assumed office was to bring quality healthcare to the doorsteps of Ghanaians, and stressed the need for continuity with his term coming to an end.
He said Dr. Bawumia and his research team in his office played pivotal role in putting together the Agenda 111 initiative and was therefore in a better position to see to the completion of the projects across the country.
“Let us not make a mistake to bring another person who does not believe in the concept in order not to truncate the initiative,” the President insisted.
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, praised the President for providing numerous health interventions in the Region, which he said was unprecedented under the Fourth Republic.
He said the Region was home to 19 of the Agenda 111 initiative aside the four VAMED projects, saying that the Region had no reason not to reward the NPP in the 2024 election.
He particularly entreated the people in the Ahafo Ano enclave to vote massively for the ruling party for the countless projects undertaken in the area.
