Ashanti Regional Research Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Elvis Koka, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of Ashanti Regional Secretary ahead of the party’s internal elections.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM with Osempani Ebenezer Yaw Jona, monitored by Kumasi Mail, Dr. Koka said his decision to seek the office is driven by his extensive knowledge of the party’s electoral dynamics in the region and his belief that the NDC can significantly improve its performance in the 2028 general elections.
Reflecting on the party’s performance in the 2024 elections, Dr. Koka said the NDC had set a target of winning 12 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region but secured only seven.
“We targeted 12 parliamentary seats but unfortunately won only seven due to certain factors that did not go well on our side, as well as violent incidents that affected the elections in some constituencies,” he said.
Despite the setback, he expressed confidence that the party has learned valuable lessons and is better positioned to improve its fortunes in the next election cycle.
“We have learnt our lessons, and we now have a new plan to achieve our target in the next elections,” he assured.
Dr. Koka said his experience as Regional Research Director, during which he worked closely with the then Ashanti Regional Secretary, now Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has equipped him with detailed knowledge of the political landscape across the region.
According to him, he has compiled comprehensive profiles of all constituencies in the Ashanti Region, making him well-prepared to serve as the party’s chief administrator.
“I have profiled every constituency and have a fair idea of what is happening in each of them. I believe I am the most prepared person to serve as the party’s administrator in the region,” he stated.
Outlining his vision, Dr. Koka said his extensive research has provided the party with critical insights into voting patterns, candidate selection, campaign messaging and constituency-specific challenges.
“I have conducted research across the entire region. The findings show the kind of candidates we present in each constituency, how they performed, and the factors that contributed to increases or declines in our votes,” he explained.
“The data also provides direction on how to craft effective campaign messages and identify the right parliamentary candidates to improve our electoral performance.”
He disclosed that his strategic blueprint for the NDC’s 2028 campaign in the Ashanti Region has already been completed and only awaits the opportunity to be implemented.
“My strategy for the 2028 elections in the Ashanti Region is already ready. What remains is for the party to give me the opportunity to serve as Regional Secretary,” he said.
Describing his leadership style, Dr. Koka said he combines a calm personality with firmness, qualities he believes are essential for the office of Regional Secretary.
“I am naturally gentle but very firm. That is the kind of Regional Secretary the party will have if I am elected,” he stated.
He concluded by appealing to NDC delegates in the Ashanti Region to support his candidacy in the upcoming internal elections, pledging to use his experience and research-based approach to strengthen the party and expand its electoral success in the region.
