A devastating fire swept through the family residence of the late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, on Wednesday, destroying personal belongings and property just a day before the first anniversary of the helicopter crash that claimed his life.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at about 3:00 p.m., rapidly engulfed sections of the family home, destroying furniture, electronic appliances, important documents and other valuables belonging to family members and other occupants.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly and battled the blaze for nearly two hours before bringing it under control, preventing it from spreading to adjoining properties.
Following the successful firefighting operation, officers entered the compound to assess the extent of damage and begin investigations into the cause of the incident.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been established, officials say investigations are underway to determine what triggered the outbreak.
The incident has cast a fresh shadow over the family, coming barely a day before the first anniversary of the military helicopter crash of August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and seven other state officials, a tragedy that plunged the nation into mourning.
The latest fire disaster has left the family counting yet another painful loss as they prepare to mark one year since the former minister’s untimely death.
