The Ga Mantse and President of the Ga Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, describing his death as a monumental loss not only to Dagbon but to Ghana’s entire chieftaincy institution.

In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, and released on Wednesday, the Ga Mantse conveyed the sympathies of the chiefs, queen mothers, elders and people of the Ga State to the Dagbon Traditional Council, the Royal Family and the people of Dagbon.

The statement, signed by Lady Justice Julia Naa-Yarley Adjei Amoah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Ga Mantse, for and on behalf of the Ga Mantse, said the Ga State received news of the revered King’s passing with “a heavy heart and profound sorrow.”

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II described the late Yaa-Naa as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign was defined by wisdom, humility, dignity and an unwavering commitment to peace and the preservation of Dagbon’s rich cultural heritage.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we received the news of the demise of a revered traditional ruler whose reign was characterized by wisdom, dignity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the preservation of peace and the rich cultural heritage of the Dagbon Kingdom,” the Ga Mantse said.

According to the statement, the late monarch devoted his life to promoting peace, unity, justice and the development of his people, earning the admiration and respect of traditional leaders and citizens both within Ghana and beyond.

The Ga Mantse further noted that the passing of Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II represents a significant loss to the institution of chieftaincy in Ghana because of the late King’s contributions to strengthening traditional leadership and national cohesion.

“The passing of Yaa-Naa Mahama Abubakari II is not only a monumental loss to the people of Dagbon, but also to the entire chieftaincy institution of Ghana. His wise counsel, statesmanship, and steadfast leadership greatly strengthened the role of traditional authority in fostering national cohesion and safeguarding our cherished customs and values,” he stated.

While mourning the late Overlord, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II said his life should also be celebrated for its selfless service, honour and commitment to humanity.

He expressed confidence that the late King’s legacy would continue to inspire both present and future generations of traditional rulers to lead with integrity, courage and compassion.

The Ga Mantse also assured the people of Dagbon of the solidarity of the Ga State during the period of mourning, praying for strength and comfort for the Royal Family, the Dagbon Traditional Council, chiefs, elders and all those affected by the King’s passing.

“During this period of grief, the Ga State stands firmly in solidarity with the people of Dagbon. We pray that the Almighty God grants the Royal Family, the Dagbon Traditional Council, the people of Dagbon, and all who mourn His Royal Majesty the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear this great loss,” he said.

He concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of the late monarch and expressed the unwavering support of the Ga Traditional Council and the entire Ga State to the people of Dagbon during the difficult period.

The tribute from the Ga Mantse adds to the growing list of condolences from traditional authorities, diplomatic missions, political leaders, business executives and institutions across Ghana and beyond following the passing of Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, whose reign from January 2019 is widely credited with deepening peace, reconciliation and unity within the Dagbon Kingdom.
