A Syrian national has been arrested at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after arriving from Accra, Ghana, with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.
The arrest, which took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, was confirmed by Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in a press statement dated November 1, 2026.
According to NACOC, the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese law enforcement authorities.
The operation was aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals at both ends of the suspected drug trafficking supply chain, while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider transnational criminal network behind the shipment.
NACOC said it was working to identify and arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices in Ghana as part of ongoing efforts to investigate the case.
The Commission described the operation as a product of close international cooperation and intelligence-sharing between the two countries, aimed at disrupting international drug trafficking networks.
It said the successful interception demonstrated Ghana and Lebanon’s shared commitment to strengthening cross-border law enforcement collaboration in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
The statement was signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, PNC Francis Opoku Amoah.
Further details about the identity of the suspect, the intended destination of the suspected cocaine and the progress of investigations have not yet been disclosed.
