With few days to the crucial regional elections in the Ashanti Region, reports are rife that there is tension between the 2028 Presidential Candidate and former Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and his former running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, on which candidates to support.
Though there are credible reports that Dr. Bawumia has subtly endorsed some candidates and presented a list through his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and his MPs Coordinator, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum, which has been accepted by all constituency executives in the region, reports are that the situation does not sit well with the former running mate who is said to be running around with a parallel list of preferred candidates.
Sources close to us indicates that at a meeting with some few Members of Parliament last week, Dr. Mathew Opoku
Prempeh outrightly dismissed the said list, telling party faithful to ignore any such information.
Interestingly however, the former Manhyia South Legislator is also selling some list of candidates, different from that of his former Boss.
Amongst the list which he is said to actively working with and will be busy with it in the coming days are Odeneho Kwaku Appiah aka COKA, Chairman Akwasi Nti, Ralph Sarfo Patrick, Asare Centence Baffour, Veronica Owusu, Francois Adomako, amongst others.
This is contrarily to what has been approved and reportedly endorsed by the Office of the Presidential Candidate which include Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, Chairman Aikins, Awuku, Dennis Kwakwa, Martin Ameyaw, and others.
It is reported that the former running mate is seriously building his base to consolidate his political future, following reports he may not be considered again for the slot in the 2028 presidential elections.
Credible source says Dr. Napo will be holding series of meetings on Thursday where it is expected that he would push through his list
