The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced 100 scholarships for young members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the capacity of young party members by supporting their education, vocational training, skills development and information technology programmes.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah made the announcement at the opening of the two-day Western Regional Quadrennial Youth Conference of the NDC in Takoradi.
He said young people represented a significant proportion of Ghana’s electorate and therefore required deliberate investment to develop their leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to the minister, the scholarship initiative was prompted by an encounter with a young NDC member who expressed frustration over being overlooked for government opportunities despite his commitment and active participation in the party.
He said further enquiries into the matter revealed that the individual lacked the higher qualifications required for some of the opportunities he sought.
The experience, he said, reinforced the need for the party and its leaders to invest in the education and professional development of young members.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah explained that the scholarships would be tailored to the needs and aspirations of beneficiaries, covering areas such as formal education, vocational and trade training, skills development and information technology.
He urged young party members to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their qualifications and enhance their prospects for employment and leadership.
He stressed that building the capacity of the youth was essential to ensuring that committed young party members were adequately prepared to take up leadership and professional opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Western Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Richard Kirk Mensah, acknowledged the contribution of the youth to the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

He, however, cautioned that the gains made in the 2024 elections could be undermined if the party failed to consolidate its position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Kirk Mensah therefore urged the youth to remain committed to the NDC and actively contribute to efforts to retain the party in government in 2028.
He said sustained commitment, organisation and mobilisation among young party members would be critical to the party’s electoral prospects in the next general election.
