The National Democratic Congress (NDC), following a nationwide protest and a week-long ultimatum given to the Electoral Commission (EC), has reiterated its demand for a forensic audit of the voters’ register.
During a press conference in Accra, themed “Forensic Audit of the Register and its IT Systems,” NDC Director of Elections, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, presented evidence supporting the party’s concerns.
Dr. Boamah disclosed that the NDC identified several alarming issues, including the addition of 243,540 previous voter transfers to the 2024 register, the revision of transferred names, and the discovery of 15,000 unidentified voter transfers.
Additionally, the party said 3,957 voters present in the 2023 register had been deleted from the 2024 provisional register, and 2,094 transferred voters were missing from the absent voters’ list as of September 6, 2024.
The party also uncovered corrupt files within the system.
According to Dr. Boamah, the NDC used SQL queries to verify voter presence in polling stations, raising doubts about the integrity of the data.
The party asserts that this audit aims to uncover the root causes of errors, which they believe may be deliberate in some cases.
However, the Electoral Commission has yet to address these concerns, with the NDC accusing the commission of taking a lax approach to resolving the issues.
