The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given its National Disciplinary Committee two weeks to investigate petitions filed against former Assin Central MP and former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.

National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Henry Nana Boakye said the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) received a number of petitions and referred them to the disciplinary committee for investigation in line with party procedures and the NPP constitution.

According to him, the National Council approved the decision and tasked the committee, chaired by former Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako Atta, to complete its work within two weeks.

He explained that the committee’s findings would be submitted to the National Council, which would then take a final decision on the matter and determine any sanctions it considers appropriate.

Nana Boakye declined to comment on the possible outcome of the investigation, insisting it would be wrong to prejudge the work of the disciplinary committee.

“The right constitutional and procedural process is being followed,” he said on Joy News, adding that the National Council, as the party’s second-highest decision-making body, would consider the committee’s report before making any decision.

The development follows growing tensions within the NPP, which were evident during a National Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday.

Clashes reportedly broke out among party supporters outside the meeting venue, with some demonstrators chanting “Ken Must Go” in an apparent reference to Kennedy Agyapong.

The unrest is believed to be linked to recent comments by the former presidential aspirant, who criticised the party’s leadership over what he described as the failure to operationalise the Afari Military Hospital.

The disciplinary committee is expected to submit its report to the National Council within the next two weeks.
