Nathaniel Klimsman Avumeh, the Presiding Officer for the Roman Catholic Church polling station at Busia Junction in the Ablekuma North Constituency, has denied claims of authenticating electoral figures submitted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking to the Media, Mr. Avumeh refuted allegations suggesting his involvement in verifying the results, describing the situation as misrepresentation. “I was not part of any process to authenticate or verify figures for the Electoral Commission,” he stated.

Allegations and Clarifications
Mr. Avumeh explained that his role during the election period was strictly procedural and did not extend to validating final figures. He expressed concerns over how his name has been implicated in the controversy, emphasizing that he had no access to documents used to finalize results.

“There were moments of misunderstanding, and I was presented with documents I had not previously handled or verified. This led to confusion, which I believe is the source of this false claim,” he said.

Discomfort with Politicization
Mr. Avumeh also lamented the increasing politicization of the election process, which he says has caused undue stress and unnecessary allegations. “As an officer, my focus has always been to ensure the process is conducted fairly, but the current situation is both surprising and disappointing,” he added.

Next Steps
The presiding officer called for a thorough investigation to clear the air, insisting he was not responsible for verifying or authenticating any contested figures. “The integrity of the electoral process is critical, and I hope the EC and relevant authorities will address this matter transparently,” he concluded.

The Electoral Commission is yet to comment on the allegations and Mr. Avumeh’s denial. Meanwhile, calls for clarity on the matter continue to grow, with stakeholders urging for a resolution to maintain public trust in the electoral process.
