The Minority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will resist the efforts of the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to establish control in the Effutu District.
Addressing a gathering of NPP supporters and Assembly members, Afenyo-Markin asserted that the NPP maintains significant influence over the Effutu District Assembly, with their presiding member and a majority of the elected assembly members firmly aligned with the party.
“Effutu Constituency will continue to be governed by the NPP,” Afenyo-Markin declared. “We hold the majority in the District Assembly, and therefore, we will steer the affairs of the constituency. we are not ready to make any changes here ” he stated emphatically.
He further warned the incoming NDC government against attempting to nominate a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the district. “The ruling government should not waste its time nominating anyone as MCE for Effutu because it will not be in their interest,” he cautioned.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized the party’s stance on rejecting any proposed nominations. “We control Effutu. There is no way we will approve any nominee they bring forward as MCE. It simply won’t happen,” he declared.
His comments signal heightened political tensions in the Effutu Constituency, setting the stage for a potential standoff between the NPP and the incoming NDC administration.
