The Member of Parliament for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, alongside other members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, has called for the adoption of advanced accounting systems and the use of information technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam emphasized that the Health Committee’s visit aimed to identify the pressing challenges facing the hospital and to formulate strategic interventions to improve service delivery.

“The purpose of this working visit is not only to assess the needs of the hospital but to work towards solutions that will help the facility provide quality healthcare to the people of this Region”, he stated.
During the engagement, the health director also highlighted the upgrade of the then-Regional Hospital to a Teaching Hospital.

He emphasized “It has become necessary to construct a new Regional Hospital to cater to the needs of the people in terms of accessing a certain level of healthcare”.

Dr. Kumi made this suggestion when Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health paid a working visit to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

He was of the view that the uncompleted 60-bed capacity facility at Odumasi in the region could be completed and used as the Regional Hospital.
In his presentation to the Members of the Health Committee, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Dr. Cardinal Newton, noted that the hospital needs an infectious disease centre to augment its work.

Despite attaining the status of a Teaching Hospital, the Acting CEO listed a number of challenges, including lack of space, lack of modern equipment, overaged vehicles and infrastructure, and the absence of financial clearance to recruit new staff.

The Member of Parliament for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, Hon. Sebastian Sandaare, who is the leader of the team, expressed his satisfaction with the work of the doctors, nurses, general staff, and management.

He assured them of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to healthcare and promised that the Committee would ensure that the allocation of resources is distributed equally to all hospitals.
