Less than two weeks after assuming office, the newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Denkyira West, Isaac Nsiah, has led a major sanitation exercise to clear longstanding refuse at the Diaso Health Centre.
The intervention follows months of public concern over unsanitary conditions at the health facility, where piles of uncollected waste posed serious health hazards to patients and nearby residents.
Working in collaboration with the Diaso Committee and the District Health Environmental Council, the DCE supervised the removal of the refuse in a coordinated clean-up operation.
Residents had repeatedly raised alarms about the worsening situation, citing offensive odours and increased pest infestation in and around the health centre.
Responding to the community’s outcry, Nsiah mobilized resources and personnel to swiftly address the issue.
“This is just the beginning,” Hon. Nsiah said during the exercise. “We are committed to making our communities clean, safe, and healthy.
Under my leadership, we will not tolerate such levels of neglect.”
The Chairman of the Diaso Committee welcomed the initiative, describing it as a promising sign of responsive and effective local governance.
“We are encouraged by the DCE’s decisive action. It gives us renewed confidence that our concerns are being heard and addressed,” he stated.
Officials from the District Health Environmental Council have pledged to implement regular monitoring and improved waste management measures to ensure the problem does not recur.
Meanwhile, residents are being urged to support the district’s renewed sanitation efforts by observing proper waste disposal practices and maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
The clean-up marks Hon. Nsiah’s first major public intervention since taking office, offering an early glimpse into a proactive and community-focused leadership approach.
