President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to advancing critical health infrastructure developments in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at a meeting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and a delegation of prominent chiefs at Jubilee House on Monday, the President emphasized the urgent need to complete the long-delayed maternity block at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The maternity block project, which commenced in February 2021 following the demolition of the old facility, is a five-storey complex designed to transform maternal and child healthcare services in the region.

Once completed, the state-of-the-art building will house modern operating theatres and specialized wards, including paediatric neurology, haematology, cardiology, and respiratory care units.

President Mahama also reassured the chiefs of his government’s determination to push forward with the completion of other vital health projects, notably the Sewua and Afari Military Hospitals, which have experienced delays in recent years.

“In the Health Sector, we will continue and complete the Sewua and Afari Military Hospitals. We will also continue and complete the KATH maternity and children blocks,” he declared.

The President noted that it would play a central role in his administration’s ambitious infrastructure development plan, dubbed the ‘Big Push’ Agenda.

“Your Majesty under the big
push infrastructure program we’re once again about to start investments in major infrastructural projects across
the country and as the second most populous region in Ghana Ashanti will not be left out your Majesty I’m happy to report to
you that we will soon undertake the feasibility study and design of the new Acra Kumasi Expressway”.

The President also expressed his dedication to the completion of Kejetia Market Phase II, which was stalled due to the debt exchange programme under the previous administration.

He said “Your majesty it is our
intention to continue and complete the phase two of the Kejetia Market phase II market
project which has been affected by the debt exchange program.

“We will also commence construction of the Kumasi outer ring road project,” the President added.

Again, the President revealed the Otumfuo’s interest in infrastructure development and recalled how he supported several developmental projects in the Ashanti Region.

“Your Royal majesty, I know how you care much about infrastructure development and my first tenure as president we worked together on several projects in the road, education, transport, health, trade and water sectors. We worked together to build the iconic Kejetia market phase I, and other satellite markets in the greater Kumasi area,” he emphasized with appreciation.
