The 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) officially began today, with a strong warning from the Ministry of Education to all school staff against engaging in examination malpractice.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education, the Deputy Minister, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, emphasized that any teaching or non-teaching staff found guilty of aiding or abetting cheating will face severe disciplinary action, including dismissal and potential prosecution.

“The integrity of our examinations is non-negotiable,” Dr. Apaak stated. “We expect all teachers, invigilators, and school authorities to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability.”

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and national security agencies, has intensified monitoring and surveillance measures to prevent any compromise of the exam process.

“Schools are places of learning, not breeding grounds for dishonesty,” Dr. Apaak said. “Those who engage in any acts that undermine the integrity of the examination will be dealt with swiftly and publicly.”

Stakeholders have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity before, during, or after the exams. The Ministry stressed that it will not shield any individual implicated in malpractice, regardless of their position.

“There must be zero tolerance for exam malpractice across the country,” added the Minister for Education,  Haruna Iddrisu. “The young ones must grow in integrity, and none should be associated with cheating.”

In a message to WASSCE candidates, the Ministry encouraged students to remain focused and confident, assuring them that they have been well-prepared and have what it takes to succeed without resorting to dishonest means.

“You have been employed to nurture, guide, and support students in their academic journey, not to compromise their future,” Dr. Apaak reminded school staff.

The Ministry wished all candidates success and urged them to approach the exams with integrity and self-belief.
