The Commercial Transport Operators have called on the public to disregard reports of a planned increase in transport fares set to take effect on August 8, 2025.

The announcement, which was attributed to the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), has been refuted by industry representatives who insist that no official approval or agreement on any fare hike has been reached.

In an official statement addressed to Kumasimail, signed by Yaw Barima, Public Relations Officer of the True Drivers Union, and Asonaba Nana Wiredu, Acting Chairman of the Commercial Transport Operators, the group clarified the situation.

The statement reads, “We urge Ghanaians to disregard the proposed transport fare increment slated for August 8, 2025, by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council. There has been no official announcement from the relevant authorities, and we are yet to agree on any fare increase.”

The operators further advised commuters to continue paying the current fare rates until an official communiqué is issued.

They also encouraged the public to report any unauthorized increases in transport fares to the appropriate regulatory bodies for prompt action.

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) announced a planned 20% increase in public transport fares in Ghana, set to take effect on August 8, 2025.

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) issued a directive for the fare hike, citing increased operational costs including a new fuel levy, rising spare parts prices, and deteriorating road conditions as key reasons behind the fare adjustment.

This proposed increase would affect all forms of public transport including taxis, tro-tros (shared minibuses), and long-distance services.
