A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Ashanti Region is reportedly preparing to protest against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, questioning his loyalty and commitment to the party.
According to the group, comments made by Mr. Agyapong during the party’s 2024 flagbearership contest tarnished the NPP’s image and contributed to its unpopularity at the time.
The Assin Central legislator, who lost the race to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is also accused of making financial demands before agreeing to support the party’s campaign.
The group alleged that after his defeat, Mr. Agyapong requested GH¢5 million from Dr. Bawumia as a budget to fund his activities if the party wanted him to play a role in the 2024 general election campaign.
They further claimed that the amount was paid to him through former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
“It is time for NPP delegates to reward real loyalty, not members who charge presidential candidates before they campaign for the party,” a source within the group said.
The source added that the upcoming presidential primaries should be about integrity and leadership rather than flamboyance.
“The NPP presidential race is not just about members in good standing from constituency to national. We will vote for people with integrity, loyalty and proper leadership skills. We will not vote for braggarts,” the group stressed.
Issuing a stern warning to the Assin Central MP, the group said they would no longer tolerate his conduct.
“This time we are ready for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. If he says ‘fi,’ we will say ‘fifi,’ because we have had enough of him,” the stated at a meeting.
The NPP is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate in January 2026.
So far, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong have all declared their intention to contest.
Shaibu lasis a member of Kennedy Agyapong campaign communications team denied the claim against Kennedy Agyapong.
He said ” Kennedy Agyapong never took money from any person as funding for 2024 NPP campaign.
