A tragic accident on the Nkawkaw–Accra highway has claimed the life of a taxi driver after a collision involving a VIP bus, raising fresh concerns about the poor state of the road.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, September 5, 2025, around 9:00 a.m. between Jejeti and Sekyere, a stretch that falls within the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly and Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region.
The crash involved a VIP bus with registration number AK 9090-20 and a Vitz taxi with registration number GB 5273-22.
Eyewitnesses told Agoo News Esinam Agbo that the VIP bus driver, in an attempt to dodge dangerous potholes, veered into the lane of the oncoming taxi, resulting in a deadly collision. The taxi driver died instantly.
The impact forced the taxi off the road into the bush. The Nkawkaw Fire Service team rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the lifeless body of the driver. The VIP bus driver, who sustained injuries, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
