The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) requires more than GH¢13 million to improve night visibility and enhance security across the city, according to Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ Pulse programme with Elton Brobbey, Mr. Agyeman Boadi said the assembly faces mounting challenges, including the management of the city’s daily waste generation, which exceeds 2,000 tonnes.
“We generate over 2,000 tonnes of waste every day. As we speak, I need to raise about Ghc13.8 million to eliminate the city of Kumasi,” he stated.
He clarified that the amount is required to install and expand street lighting systems across communities to help improve visibility at night and strengthen security measures.
“Provide streetlights so that we would have good visibility at night to improve on security management of our metropolis.
So, it’s a huge challenge,” he said.
When asked whether the central government was supporting the initiative, the KMA boss confirmed that President John Dramani Mahama has directed that a share of the District Assemblies Common Fund be allocated to assist.
“The president has directed and a share of the common fund has appropriately been assigned,” he asserted.
