Businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has pledged a special financial reward for the Black Stars after being impressed by the team’s performance at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
The entrepreneur made the commitment when he visited the team’s camp in Rhode Island on Thursday, June 25, to motivate the players and technical team ahead of their final group-stage match against Croatia on Saturday, June 27.
Speaking to the squad, Ibrahim Mahama praised the players for their determination, discipline and resilience throughout the tournament, explaining that their displays had convinced him to release financial support he had initially held back.
“I was holding money back even when I pledged, and I told the minister that I wouldn’t give the money until I saw good performance. But now I want to rush home and give him all the money,” he said.

The businessman’s gesture adds to the growing support Ghana’s national team has received from individuals and corporate organisations during the global football tournament.
Ibrahim Mahama also commended Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz for his impact on the team, praising the Portuguese coach for quickly building a competitive side despite taking charge only weeks before the World Cup.
“With the coach, I am very, very proud because you came in at a shorter time. You have been able to put the boys together with your wonderful performance,” he said.
Earlier this year, Ibrahim Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s World Cup campaign when his company, Engineers and Planners, donated $5 million during a national fundraising initiative aimed at supporting Ghana’s participation in the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
His latest pledge reflects renewed confidence in the Black Stars as they continue their pursuit of success on football’s biggest stage.
