Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, is set to deliver the keynote address at the Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025.

The virtual summit will run from Sunday, September 21, to Monday, September 22, under the theme “Towards a Climate Resilient Africa through Strategic Communication.” It comes ahead of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP30) scheduled to take place in Brazil this November.

Adwoa Wiafe has been a prominent voice in corporate sustainability, driving MTN Ghana’s commitment to environmental responsibility and inclusive development. At the company, she has played a key role in advancing sustainability pillars that include reducing carbon emissions through green technologies, supporting community development and digital inclusion, and promoting ethical leadership and accountability.

Her keynote will explore how strategic communication can transform climate challenges into opportunities, ensuring messages reach policymakers, businesses, and communities in ways that inspire meaningful action.

The Africa Climate Communication Summit will gather storytellers, journalists, communication experts, and creative artists from across Africa and beyond, including participants from Benin, Mali, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom. Delegates will share lived experiences and ideas on how communication can bridge the gap between science, policy, and everyday realities of climate change.

Adwoa Wiafe’s presentation is expected to highlight the private sector’s role in climate action, drawing from MTN Ghana’s sustainability journey to illustrate how businesses can drive solutions.

“Climate communication is more than just awareness, it is about mobilizing action,” she said ahead of the event. “At MTN Ghana, we are committed to telling Africa’s climate story in a way that empowers people, protects the environment, and secures a sustainable future for generations to come.”

Organisers say the summit comes at a crucial time, as Africa grapples with climate risks while also showing strong potential for innovation and community-driven solutions. By centering communication in climate action, the event aims to reposition Africa as a proactive player in shaping a resilient global future.

The maiden summit is being convened by the Stories for Change Foundation through its Climate Communication Africa Programme, in partnership with Africans Communicating Africa. Organisers say the event will put voices, performances, and storytelling at the centre of shaping Africa’s climate narrative and will help set the tone for the continent’s participation at COP30.

Sessions will examine how women, children, and non-scientific voices can become central storytellers of climate realities. Other discussions will focus on the role of media, schools, and grassroots actors in climate communication, while stories from vulnerable regions such as the Sahel will highlight the human impact of climate disruption.

Day two of the summit will feature keynote reflections and panel discussions assessing whether climate change is being effectively communicated in Africa, and how sustainability and green energy can be framed as essential to the continent’s future. The event will conclude with commitments to collaboration, ensuring that its outcomes contribute to Africa’s preparation for COP30.

According to the organisers, the Africa Climate Communication Summit will not only spark new narratives but also strengthen the role of African communicators, journalists, and storytellers in influencing global climate debates in Brazil. By showcasing authentic perspectives from across the continent, the summit aims to ensure African voices present a united communication strategy rooted in resilience, equity, and climate justice.

For the Stories for Change Foundation, the summit represents more than just an event. It is described as a call to reclaim Africa’s climate story, elevate indigenous knowledge, and place communities at the heart of the global conversation.

Participation in the Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 is free and open to all. Interested individuals can register at: Zoom Registration Link.
