The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has been formally petitioned to launch an investigation into widely publicized allegations of illegal mining leveled against three Regional Ministers.
The petition, dated November 19, 2025, was submitted by Mr. Daniel Sasu Omari and Mr. Darren Jackson Pra.
It calls on the CID to investigate claims made by Mr. Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, Head of Mobilization at Democracy Hub, during a live interview on Aluta FM (92.1MHz).
During the November 18 broadcast, Mr. Yeboah alleged that the Regional Ministers for Ashanti, Western, and Eastern Regions were involved in illegal mining activities.
The claim generated significant public attention and backlash, prompting demands for evidence.
However, following the public outcry, Mr. Yeboah issued a retraction and apology, admitting that the allegations were not grounded in truth or supported by evidence.
A copy of the apology was attached to the petition submitted to the CID.
Despite the retraction, the petitioners argue that the seriousness of the initial claims warrants an independent investigation to establish the facts, determine whether the allegations were made with malicious intent, and safeguard public trust.
They noted that such accusations, if left unexamined, could harm the integrity of public office holders and undermine the national fight against illegal mining—a priority repeatedly emphasized by the President.
The petition requests that the CID invite Mr. Yeboah, the Aluta FM show host, and the programme’s producer to assist with investigations and provide any evidence related to the broadcast.
Describing the allegations as damaging and capable of distorting national discourse, the petitioners stressed: “The truth must be established to protect the integrity of public office and maintain public trust in the national effort against illegal mining.”
They expressed confidence that the CID would accord the matter the urgent attention it deserves.
