Forty-one of the 47 New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairmen aligned with the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB) caucus in the Ashanti Region have raised concerns over what they describe as a violation of party campaign protocols by Irene Naa Torshie, a key member of the Kennedy Ohene Agyapong campaign team.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the chairmen alleged that Naa Torshie scheduled a regional campaign tour that directly overlapped with the already approved itinerary of former Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia, who has been touring the Ashanti Region as part of her campaign activities. Samira’s tour, sanctioned by the Regional Executive Committee, was expected to end on November 26, 2025.
According to the chairmen, the decision by Naa Torshie to hold a simultaneous tour “raises legitimate questions about intent and respect for party structures” and contradicts guidelines designed to prevent clashes and tension among campaign teams.
The group further claimed that Samira Bawumia was compelled to suspend her activities to avoid any potential confrontation.
They described her decision to step aside as “a commitment to peace and unity,” while questioning the motives behind the timing of Naa Torshie’s visit.
The statement also warned the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team to refrain from actions the chairmen consider “indisciplined” and potentially destabilizing.
They argued that several other regions were available for tour, suggesting that the Ashanti Region need not have been selected during an active approved campaign.
The chairmen urged both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Regional Executive Committee (REC) to investigate the matter and enforce strict adherence to campaign protocols to safeguard party cohesion.
“The Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of the NPP,” the statement read. “We will not allow acts of disrespect, sabotage, or indiscipline to undermine the progress of our party.”
The statement was signed by four leading members of the DMB Caucus in the Ashanti region including Yaw Bonna Boadi, Chairman for Kwadaso and Ashanti DMB Caucus Chairman, Kofi Acheampong, Chairman for Manso Adubia and DMB Caucus Organiser, Frederick Agyemang Mensah, Chairman for Kwabre East and Secretary of the Caucus and Kwame Owusu, Chairman for Adansi Asokwa and Caucus Spokesperson
Naa Torshie and the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
