The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the 2025/2026 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) remains unchanged, while making provisions for off-campus learning for students in selected transition schools.
In a statement issued on January 2, 2026, and signed by management of the Service, GES said the decision applies to all public SHSs and SHTSs across the country. The announcement is intended to inform heads of schools, teachers, students, parents and other stakeholders.
According to the GES, students in single-track schools will follow the already approved academic calendar issued at the beginning of the academic year.
For Forms 1 and 2 in single-track schools, students are to report to school from January 5 to February 27, 2026, after which they will go on break until May 3. They are expected to return on May 4 and remain in school until August 21, marking the end of the academic year.
Form 3 students in single-track schools will also report from January 5 to February 27, 2026, proceed on break from February 28 to March 13, and resume on March 14. Their academic year will end on June 21, 2026.
GES further outlined special arrangements for transitional schools, which are expected to adopt a combination of in-school and off-campus learning to manage enrolment and infrastructure constraints.
Form 3 students in transitional schools will be in school from January 5 to March 31, 2026, take an Easter break from April 1 to April 8, and return from April 9 to June 21, marking the end of their school year.
For Form 2 students in transitional schools, in-person learning will run from January 5 to March 15, followed by online or off-campus learning from March 16 to April 17. They will then go on vacation from April 18 to May 17, before returning to school from May 18 to September 4, 2026, to complete the academic year.
Form 1 students in transitional schools will begin with off-campus learning from January 5 to January 30, followed by a vacation period from January 31 to March 15. They will then report to school from March 16 to May 17, return to off-campus learning from May 18 to June 12, proceed on vacation from June 13 to July 2, and finally report to school from July 3 to September 4, 2026, to end the academic year.
GES said the measures are aimed at ensuring continuity in teaching and learning while addressing challenges associated with transitioning schools to full single-track status.
The Service urged all stakeholders to take note of the arrangements and cooperate to ensure a smooth academic year.
