Former Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has called for unity within the party and appealed to former party officers in the Ashanti Region to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post recounting his recent engagements in the region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said he held separate meetings with two groups of former constituency and regional party officers who had served the NPP with “loyalty, discipline and commitment.”

He praised the former officers for their dedication to the party, particularly during what he described as its most challenging periods, and expressed gratitude for their continued support.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who was the NPP’s 2024 Vice Presidential candidate, also offered an apology on behalf of the party for any injustice or unfair treatment the former officers may have experienced during their years of service.

“I pleaded for forgiveness for any wrongs they may have endured in the course of serving the party,” he said, adding that the NPP now needs their experience and commitment more than ever.
He stressed that the party is at a critical stage in its history and requires leadership capable of uniting all factions and restoring confidence among supporters.

According to him, such leadership must be tested, proven and positioned to lead the NPP back to power in 2028.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh said he believes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia best embodies these qualities and urged the former party officers to support him to lead the party forward.
The engagements form part of ongoing internal consultations within the NPP as the party reflects on its performance in the 2024 elections and charts a path toward rebuilding and unifying its base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
