The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has congratulated Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the party’s flagbearer, describing him as a “symbol of hope for the youth” and a leader capable of delivering practical solutions for Ghana’s future.
In a statement issued on February 2, 2026, and signed by National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, the youth wing said Dr. Bawumia’s mandate reflects the confidence Ghanaians have in his leadership vision, ideas, and track record.
According to the statement, the youth of Ghana are facing growing economic hardship and uncertainty, which it attributed to what it described as the failures of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by President John Dramani Mahama. The group cited rising unemployment and economic pressures as key concerns confronting young people.
The youth wing noted that Dr. Bawumia’s previous role as Vice President during the Akufo-Addo administration demonstrated his capacity to help transform the economy, referencing Ghana’s exit from an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and periods of economic growth prior to recent challenges.
Describing Dr. Bawumia as a problem-solver with technological foresight, the statement said his leadership represents an opportunity for innovation-driven reforms aimed at creating jobs and expanding opportunities for young people.
The National Youth Wing further pledged to work closely with Dr. Bawumia to implement youth-focused initiatives and policies across the country, stressing its commitment to mobilising and inspiring young Ghanaians ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“We are confident that under his leadership, the NPP will secure a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections,” the statement said.
The youth wing concluded by urging Dr. Bawumia to continue serving with humility, inclusiveness, and dedication, adding that the youth of the party and the country are ready to support his vision for national development.
