Emerging reports suggest that delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are showing a preference for Joe Osei Wusu and Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum as potential running mates ahead of Ghana’s next general elections in 2028.
Party sources familiar with internal consultations say the two senior figures are closely matched in delegate support, making the contest highly competitive.
Hon. Joe Osei Wusu, a former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, is described by delegates as experienced, unifying, and respected across party ranks.
Meanwhile, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, noted for his work in education and policy reform, is said to enjoy strong grassroots appeal and a clean public record.
Coming third in the emerging preference is former Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, whose extensive political experience and institutional knowledge are widely acknowledged.
Former running mate, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, reportedly ranks fourth, with some delegates citing concerns about his broader public appeal.
No official decision has been announced, but sources indicate that these emerging sentiments are likely to influence the choice of running mate by the party’s flagbearer, His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia.
