Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters have intercepted more than 300 drums of suspected Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) service cables at a facility in the Sentuo Resources enclave at the Kpone Industrial Area.
The operation followed a police intelligence-led investigation that led officers to the premises on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
According to preliminary investigations, the cables are suspected to have been stolen ECG service cables that were being processed for export.
Police sources say the officers discovered that several of the cables had already been cut into pieces and melted down, allegedly to be remoulded into another product intended for export to China.
Initial examination at the scene indicated that the processed material could later be recycled into new electrical cables, which could potentially be sold back for use in the power sector.
Further checks by investigators reportedly confirmed the suspicion when officers found portions of the cables already cut and remoulded, while others were being prepared for export.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the cables, those responsible for the operation, and whether they were indeed stolen from ECG supplies.
The police have not yet announced any arrests but say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The interception comes amid ongoing concerns about cable theft and illegal recycling of power infrastructure materials, which have been blamed for disruptions in electricity supply in parts of the country.
