The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, has strongly endorsed the 2024 manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as a comprehensive action plan aimed at building on the achievements of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the launch held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi, the Minister highlighted the manifesto’s focus on job creation and national development.

Addressing a gathering that included party members and supporters, the Damango MP emphasized the NPP’s record of economic growth, particularly in the mining sector. “Through hard work and innovative policies, we have overtaken South Africa as the leading producer of gold on the continent and the sixth in the world,” he said.

He further noted the revival of the Bibiani and Obuasi mines, which, alongside new investments, have bolstered Ghana’s position in the global gold industry.

The Minister pointed out that the sector’s revitalization had already generated substantial revenue and created numerous jobs for the youth.

The manifesto, according to Hon. Jinapor, also outlines policies aimed at enhancing value addition, local content, and participation in the mining industry.

He praised the introduction of measures such as the construction of refineries and mandatory listings on the Ghana Stock Exchange, which ensure that the benefits of mining are increasingly retained within the country.

Turning to the forestry sector, the Minister lauded the government’s environmental conservation efforts, noting the success of the Green Ghana Project, which has resulted in the planting of over 52 million trees in four years. He cited the increase in forest cover from 2017 to 2023 as evidence of Ghana’s leadership in forest management and climate action.

In addition to economic and environmental achievements, Mr. Jinapor highlighted the government’s efforts in strengthening the nation’s security forces.

He outlined the various initiatives undertaken to enhance the welfare of the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies, including the settlement of peacekeeping arrears and the provision of new equipment and housing.

The Minister framed the upcoming 2024 elections as a critical decision point for Ghana’s youth. He contrasted the NPP’s track record of “tangible and impactful achievements” with what he characterized as the failures of the previous government.

“A choice between a smart, hardworking, youthful and problem-solving leader, who will work for you, day and night, and those who have been tried and failed,” he asserted.

In closing, Hon. Jinapor called on the youth of Ghana to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he hailed as a “visionary leader” with “bold solutions for the future.”

He expressed confidence that the 2024 NPP manifesto would be fully implemented under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, urging Ghanaians to support his candidacy for the presidency.

“A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for bold solutions for the future. We can do it and let’s do it,” Mr. Jinapor concluded.

The launch of the manifesto marks the beginning of the NPP’s campaign for the 2024 elections, with party leaders expressing optimism about their chances of securing a third consecutive term in office.
