A Blue Water Guard personnel identified as Adams Abubakar, has reportedly drowned in a river at Akyem Amenam in the Birim North District of Eastern region during anti-illegal mining operation.
The 35 year old deceased was part of group of water guards that embarked on an operation on River Prah to flush out illegal miners on the river.
The illegal miners fled upon seeing personnel of the Blue Water guards however one was arrested.
Adams Abubakar ,described as an experienced and skillful diver stepped into the river to bring out machines being used by the illegal miners to be set ablaze.

However, was drowning in attempt to bring the forth machine .After stranous effort, by his colleagues he was rescued while unconscious .
He was carried on the shoulders long distance through the bush to where the operation car was parked before being transported to Abirim Government Hospital but pronounced dead upon arrival.
His body has since been retrieved and deposited at the Abirem Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Spokeperson for the Blue Water Guards Francis Lartsu confirmed the incident.

The local Police have commenced investigations.
