The campaign team of Dr. Charles Dwumena Popularly known as Dr. China has rejected allegations circulating on social media that he is using a mobile shortcode to divert party funds into a personal account, describing the claims as false and malicious.
In a press release dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to media houses, the team said a Facebook post alleging that shortcode 7142028# was being used by the National Treasurer to redirect New Patriotic Party (NPP) dues collections is inaccurate.
The statement further alleged that the publication originated from individuals affiliated with the camp of Justin Kodua Frimpong, the incumbent General Secretary of the NPP, whom Dr. Dwumena is seeking to unseat.
According to the campaign, it had officially engaged Hubtel and was assigned a different shortcode, 7132028#, in February 2026 to receive campaign donations. It emphasized that the donation platform has not yet been fully launched, noting that a pilot phase had recorded inflows of GH₵1,214.10 as of April 22.
The team clarified that the NPP’s official dues collection shortcode remains 920270#, and stressed that it is entirely separate from the campaign’s donation code. “These are two distinct shortcodes meant for two different entities and are not interlinked whatsoever,” the statement said.
The release also referenced internal communications indicating that a request had been made on April 21 by an NPP official to register the disputed shortcode for dues collection, but this was reportedly declined to avoid confusion with the campaign’s assigned code.
While condemning the allegations as a smear attempt, the campaign said it remains focused on promoting Dr. Dwumena’s track record and vision for the party ahead of the General Secretary race.
“We will not be distracted by our opponents,” the statement said, adding that the campaign is committed to restoring unity and confidence within the party. The statement was signed by Yaw Yeboah, Director of Communication for the campaign.
