The Northern Regional Police Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, has arrested a suspect and retrieved several boxes of suspected illicit drugs during an anti-drug operation in Tamale.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Abdul Manan, was arrested at an over-the-counter pharmacy shop at Zujung following intelligence gathered by the team.
The operation was carried out by a 44-member team led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug peddling in the metropolis.

A search conducted at both the suspect’s shop and residence led to the retrieval of several suspected illicit pharmaceutical products.
These included thirty-two boxes of 50mg Tramadol, one box of 250mg Tramadol, one sachet of 120mg Royal Tramadol, one sachet of 100mg Tramadol, nine boxes of 32mg Astradol-P, and twenty-four bottles of Koffex.
Police say all the items have been retained for evidential purposes.

Speaking on the operation, the police stressed that the exercise forms part of broader efforts to rid communities of illicit drugs and protect the youth from substance abuse.
“The Northern Regional Police Command remains committed to fighting drug peddling and related crimes in the region. We will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety and security of the public,” the police stated.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, as authorities intensify efforts to combat the sale and abuse of illicit drugs in the region.
