NDC refutes claims of defection: labels Wontumi’s statement as baseless and deceptive

The Ashanti Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly denied recent claims that 95 of its members have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kwabre East Constituency.

These allegations, made by the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been dismissed as entirely false and a desperate attempt to create a misleading narrative about the NPP’s strength.

Responding specifically to the alleged defection of Alhaji Muntari Alhassan in Ntonso, Isham Alhassan, the Ashanti Regional Organizer of the NDC, confirmed that only Alhaji Muntari, a known and influential NDC member, has switched allegiance to the NPP.

“I can say on authority that no member of the NDC in Ntonso, apart from Alhaji Muntari Alhassan, has defected to the NPP,” he stated.

The NDC further claimed that the other individuals presented by Wontumi as defectors were, in reality, already NPP members posing as former NDC members. “This stunt is nothing more than a desperate attempt to create a false narrative of momentum for the NPP,” the NDC’s statement read.

He disclosed before the defection of Alhaji Muntari Alhassan in Ntonso the NDC has had distablised the NPP camp in Ntonso therefore, the NPP target the NDC’s influential leader to prove a point.

Below is audio recording of a meeting the NPP’s Zongo campaign team members held on haw to challenge the NDC in the area.

The party criticized Wontumi for resorting to what they described as “deceptive tactics” instead of addressing the pressing issues and internal divisions within the NPP’s regional leadership.

The NDC also questioned Wontumi’s leadership capabilities, suggesting that if he were truly effective, he would focus on resolving conflicts within his own party.

This includes efforts to reunite with disgruntled NPP members such as Alan Kyerematen and his Butterfly Movement, who have distanced themselves from the current NPP leadership.

“Attempting to manufacture defections from the NDC will not change the reality that Ghanaians are tired of the failed promises and hardships under the current government,” Isham Alhassan asserted.

The NDC urged the public to see these claims for what they are—a “shameless and futile effort” to distract from the real issues affecting the nation. The party reaffirmed its unity and commitment to bringing about meaningful change and progress for all Ghanaians.
