The Government of Ghana has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, paying tribute to his leadership, commitment to peace, and immense contribution to national development.
In a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Office on Monday, President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the government, extended his deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon, and the nation.
The government described the late Yaa Naa as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign ushered in healing, reconciliation, and enduring peace in Dagbon after years of conflict.
According to the statement, his unwavering dedication to unity, stability, and the welfare of his people created an enabling environment for development and strengthened collaboration between traditional authorities and the government in advancing progress across Dagbon and Ghana.
The government further honoured the late monarch’s legacy, describing his service to the nation as invaluable and expressing hope that his wisdom, leadership, and commitment to peace would continue to inspire future generations.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
