Former Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has thrown his weight behind former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, urging NPP delegates to elect him as the party’s National 1st Vice Chairman.
Dr. Bin Salih said Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s combination of political experience, intellectual depth, administrative discipline and grassroots mobilisation made him well suited to help rebuild and strengthen the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of future elections.
In an article published on Sunday August 9, 2026 on his Facebook page arguing the case for Dr. Abdul-Hamid, he described the former Minister for Information as “a rare convergence of Islamic scholarship, academic depth, and veteran party activism.”
He said Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s experience as a former National Youth Organiser, spokesperson for then-presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Cabinet Minister and NPA chief executive had equipped him with the political and organisational skills required for the position.
According to Dr Bin Salih, that experience would be particularly valuable in resolving internal tensions within the party, building strategic alliances and developing effective electoral strategies.
He argued that Dr. Abdul-Hamid could help mediate parliamentary primary disputes, address post-primary tensions and strengthen relationships between the NPP and diverse voter groups, particularly communities in Zongo and inner-city areas.
Dr. Bin Salih also pointed to Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s academic background, including his PhD in Religious Studies and university teaching experience, as an asset to the party’s policy communication and ideological defence.
“His deep understanding of political theory, interfaith dynamics, and public policy enables him to articulate the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition with clarity,” he wrote.
He further cited Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s record at the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development and the NPA as evidence of his administrative capacity and commitment to institutional discipline.
Dr. Bin Salih said the NPP needed national executives capable of maintaining composure during internal disputes and intense electoral contests, describing Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s “steady, deliberate temperament” as one of his defining strengths.
Beyond his administrative and intellectual credentials, he said Dr. Abdul-Hamid had demonstrated a sustained commitment to grassroots mobilisation, from his early involvement in organising youth structures to his participation in national campaign activities.
As National 1st Vice Chairman, Dr. Bin Salih believes that experience could be deployed to strengthen polling station structures, youth and women’s wings and the party’s external branches.
He said the combination of “intellectual depth, administrative discipline, strategic wisdom, calm leadership under pressure, and grassroots drive” made Dr. Abdul-Hamid the ideal candidate to occupy the NPP’s National 1st Vice Chairmanship.
